"Youth Corps" Pilot Program

Event: “Youth Corps” Workshops
Activity: A pilot session of Personal Development Workshops
Organization: Ministry of Youth Affairs, Sri Lanka.
Venue: Atthanagalle Youth Corps Training Centre
Number of participants: 350
Date: 25th March 2008
Duration: 3 hrs

Back Ground:
The Ministry of Youth Affairs began a six month Self Development program called "Youth Corps" in January 2008. They have about 30 centres all over the country and each training centre holds about 350 young people. After meeting the Director of “Youth Corps”, BKWSU were asked to do a pilot program at one of these centres.

Details:
On 25th March we went to Atthanagalle Youth Corps Training Centre and presented a Personal Development program for 350 youth. The Deputy Director for Training, the Deputy Director of the Training Centre and the instructors also participated.

The feedback from the participants was very good. One in particular, who had never spoken in front of an audience, came up to the stage and shared a summary of her group’s discussions. She also mentioned that this program had inspired her to have the courage to come up and talk!

The Deputy Director for Training was very pleased with the event and asked us to forward a weekly program for the next 3 months so the young people involved could explore these ideas further. He also recommended that we present the workshops at other centres too.

Results of Pilot program:
A weekly program for 350 trainees will take place for 3 months.

Future Follow up:
This event will be proposed in the other 30 centres nationally
